Greg and his wife have 2 sons ages 28 and 24. Greg enjoys exercising, traveling, and shooting sporting clays. He spends many weekends at Lake James where he and his wife enjoy time together on the water, relaxing with family and friends, and spinning 45's on his vintage 1960 Rock-Ola jukebox.

Greg Ahlum is an attorney who practices construction law (transactional and litigation), business litigation, real estate litigation, fiduciary litigation, and general commercial litigation. In his construction law practice, Greg represents contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, owners and developers, and sureties. Greg has represented clients from around the U.S. in their North Carolina construction projects. His broad range of experience includes professional sports stadiums, high rise office towers, waste water treatment facilities, arena upfits, bridges, highways, underground utilities, mass transit, mixed-use development, apartments, retail, student housing, office parks, breweries, hospitals, and residential projects. Greg is well known for his strategic approach to construction projects – from conception and contract negotiation, to managing risk and providing solutions during the project, and, if need be, handling disputes through mediation, litigation, or arbitration. His construction practice includes:

Greg is a go-to lawyer on OSHA cases, having written the OSHA chapter in the North Carolina Bar’s Construction Law Desk Book. Greg also provides legal assistance to contractors, subcontractors, and manufacturing companies with job-related fatalities, including OSHA inspections resulting therefrom. With more than 30 years of experience in the courtroom, Greg’s adversarial practice has also spanned a broad range of complex real estate, fiduciary and business litigation, particularly involving disputes among shareholders, non-competes, and breach of contract. Greg is consistently in the courtroom with the focus to get the case in the best position for his clients. Greg is certified as a Superior Court Mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission. Greg is ranked by Chambers & Partners in both Construction and Litigation practice areas.

Representative Experience

  • Represents companies and individuals in business and commercial litigation, including breach of contract actions, covenants not to compete, real property and title disputes, shareholder disputes, business torts, UCC matters, administrative hearing and defense of OSHA citations.
  • Represents contractors, owners, subcontractors, suppliers and sureties in construction litigation, mediation and arbitration.
  • Advises and represents contractors, owners, subcontractors, suppliers and sureties regarding licensing, bid protests, OSHA, contract negotiations, construction contract negotiations, construction site issues, construction arbitration and mediation, mechanics’ liens, payment and performance bond claims, construction defects, mold claims, construction loan issues and claims and disputes.
  • Serves as Mediator and Arbitrator of disputes and civil actions.
