Thomas Gardner Co-Plans SC Bar Estate Planning CLE

Johnston Allison Hord attorney Thomas Gardner recently served as a Co-Planner for the South Carolina Bar CLE program titled “Legacy on the Line: A South Carolina Estate Planning Case Study,” an all-day program held on July 31, 2026. The program brought together estate planning practitioners to examine planning for real estate, tax planning, asset protection, supplemental needs, closely held businesses, probate avoidance, litigation prevention and mitigation, and ethics.

In addition to his role as Co-Planner, Thomas also served as a speaker, joining Lyndey Bryant to present “When the Family Feud Becomes the Estate Plan: Fiduciaries, No-Contest Clauses & Dispute Prevention.” Their presentation covered strategies for estate planners to minimize the risk of litigation arising from drafted estate plans, including elective share planning techniques, capacity issues, choice of fiduciary, and the use of no-contest clauses. Thomas and Lyndey also discussed how the decisions clients make in their estate planning documents today, and how those files are documented, can shape the likelihood and outcome of future litigation.

The CLE program also covered a range of additional topics relevant to estate planning practitioners, including real property in family estate planning, asset protection, planning for minors and vulnerable beneficiaries, business succession planning, and beneficiary designations, among others.
