Johnston Allison Hord partner Nicki Engel recently presented at the North Carolina Advocates for Justice CLE program titled “Navigating Social Security Disability Practice: From Application to Advocacy,” held September 17, 2026. The program was designed to provide professionals with guidance on current legislation, regulations, and practice strategies impacting disability practices.
Nicki’s presentation titled, “Special Needs Trusts Planning for SSI Claimants and Related Issues,” addressed key considerations for practitioners developing a special needs plan for clients who receive or are pursuing Supplemental Security Income, including special needs trusts, Medicaid, and alternatives to special needs trusts.
The CLE program also covered a range of additional topics relevant to disability practitioners, including a Federal Law Update, AI & Ethics, SSI and Ticket to Work, and Workers’ Compensation Offsets, among others.
