Johnston Allison Hord is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Attorney to join our established and growing Commercial Real Estate Practice Group (CREPG) in Charlotte, NC.
Our CREPG, comprised of 11 attorneys, represents developers, owners, investors, retailers, businesses, lenders, and other clients in acquiring, developing, leasing, financing, and managing commercial real estate. The group handles a broad range of projects involving retail, industrial, office, multifamily, mixed-use, and other commercial and development projects.

The Opportunity
The ideal candidate will be a strong transactional attorney with experience drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements and commercial leases, managing due diligence and title and survey matters, and taking commercial real estate transactions from contract through closing.
Experience in two or more of the following areas is preferred:
- Drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements and other agreements relating to the acquisition and disposition of commercial real estate
- Drafting and negotiating commercial leases, including leases, amendments, subleases, and related agreements
- Managing commercial real estate transactions from contract through closing, including due diligence, title and survey review, closing documentation, and coordination with clients, brokers, lenders, title companies, surveyors, and opposing counsel
- Reviewing and negotiating title commitments, title policies, surveys, easements, and other title matters, including identifying and resolving title and survey issues
- Representing clients in commercial real estate acquisition, disposition, development, and redevelopment
- Handling commercial real estate development matters, including development agreements and other project-related documentation
- Negotiating commercial real estate financing, including loan terms and related documentation
- Advising clients regarding easements, declarations, condominiums, condemnation, rezoning, land use, and other real estate matters
- Advising clients on 1031 exchanges, opportunity zones, and other real estate-related tax matters
- Drafting and negotiating joint venture agreements and related entity and transaction documents
The attorney will have the opportunity to work directly with clients, opposing counsel, and other professionals and take primary responsibility for assigned transactions with increasing independence.

Qualifications
- 4–10+ years of commercial real estate experience preferred, although candidates with other levels of relevant experience will be considered
- Experience in two or more of the areas identified above is preferred, with particular value placed on experience drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements and commercial leases, managing transactions through closing, and reviewing and negotiating title and survey matters
- Excellent judgment and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clients and colleagues
- Must be licensed to practice law in North Carolina
- South Carolina licensure is a plus
Candidates with strong residential real estate experience, particularly attorneys with substantial title and survey review and negotiation experience who are interested in expanding into commercial real estate, will also be considered.
