Johnston Allison Hord has the privilege of working with three extremely talented 2023 summer associates; Mackenzie Ferguson, McKenna Fono, and Ben Hopkins. All three will be with JAH for the entire summer before entering their final year of law school this fall.
Mackenzie Ferguson
As a student at the University of Georgia School of Law, Mackenzie has served a member of the Journal of Intellectual Property and a student attorney for the university’s First Amendment Clinic. She has also gained experience as a legal intern for the Georgia Governor’s Executive Counsel. The way that law shapes society and institutions motivated Mackenzie to pursue a legal career and she believes that advising people and businesses through daily legal decisions offers an intellectually stimulating career that makes a positive impact on clients. The areas of practice that interest Mackenzie the most are corporate law, and trusts & estates.
McKenna Fono
McKenna is a rising 3L at the University of North Carolina School of Law where she is the Symposium Editor for the North Carolina Journal of Law and Technology and a UNC Center for Climate, Energy, Environment, and Economics Scholar. She is also passionately involved with UNC School of Law veteran and environmental pro-bono projects. Outside of her professional pursuits, McKenna is an avid hiker and has hiked nine of sixty-three US National Parks. McKenna was inspired to become a lawyer after assisting her mother in her struggles navigating her limited liability company and other legal intricacies after becoming a widow. Witnessing this stress and burden made McKenna realize that many other people were in similar situations and she could better help them and her mother as an attorney. Her motivation to help clients understand legal issues and protect them from future problems has stoked McKenna’s interest in trusts and estates and corporate law.
Ben Hopkins
Ben is a student at the University of South Carolina School of Law where he serves on the board of the ABA Real Property, Trust, and Estate Law Journal. Growing up, Ben was always interested in the law and was originally interested in pursuing a career in the legislature. His undergraduate studies taught him, however, that he did not want to work directly in politics. Maintaining his love for the law, Ben has found pursuing a career as an attorney to be incredibly enjoyable and intellectually challenging. The practice areas that Ben has found the most interesting are estate planning, taxation, and corporate law.
