JJohnston Allison Hord is seeking an experienced tax attorney with 10 or more years of experience to join our Corporate Practice Group to advise clients on a wide range of federal and state tax matters. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in tax planning, transactional tax work, and tax controversy, and is comfortable working directly with clients, accountants, and internal legal teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services to corporate and individual clients
- Structure and analyze tax implications for mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and other transactions
- Advise on federal and state compliance and planning matters, including for tax exempt organizations
- Represent clients in tax disputes, audits, and negotiations with tax authorities
- Assist CPAs in review of income, gift, and estate tax returns
- Advise on complicated 1031 exchanges
- Draft and review legal documents, memoranda, and opinions related to tax matters
- Collaborate with other attorneys and advisors on complex transactions
- Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to the development of the firm’s tax practice
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- LL.M. in Taxation or CPA (Tax)
- Active license to practice law
- Minimum 10 years of experience in tax law at a law firm, accounting firm, or government agency
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws
- Experience with tax exempt organizations is preferred
- Experience with transactional tax planning and tax controversy matters
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Strong client-management and communication abilities
